Jack Wilson Oil Painting, from Shane to Artist

When you hear the words “Jack Wilson” the first thing that may come to mind is the old western movie called “Shane” where a weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a conflict with a smoldering settler/rancher forces him to act, staring Jack Palance as “Jack Wilson”. Jack Palance was one of the great movie heavies of the 1950s; he was often cast in roles as a sinister villain in film noirs, westerns and melodramas. The younger crowd might remember him as the comically creepy trail boss in the movie “City Slickers” starring Billy Crystal. During WWII when a bomber he was piloting crashed Jack was badly burned; this resulted in having plastic surgery that helped to give his face its taut, leathery look. But what many people don’t know is that there is an artist who paints pictures with oil paints by the name of Jack Wilson also.

Jack Wilson began playing around in art when he was in the Air Force but never really spent a lot of time at it. Later, after he retired he picked up a brush again, and began taking his art work seriously nearly six years ago. He is known as the Artist group's most prolific artist, where he shyly admits to creating at least one new piece a week. He’s been known to complete an entire painting in a day.

For years and years the only way to express or capture a moment was through the end of a brush. But over the years what was once recorded only on paper or canvas, over time transformed into pictures, motion pictures, movies, videos and DVD’s.

The world of art today has been totally transformed through modern technology. Though you have to admit, there’s nothing like a beautiful piece of art work done with oil paintings. Famous painters over the years have been able to transform their paintings into images that are almost true to life.

Oil painting of landscapes can make you feel like you’re right there in the picture, giving you a sense of comfort, enjoyment, or adventure.

Like the way a film maker produces a movie, the way an artist applies the oil paint onto the canvas, can produce a certain kind of look or feel. It’s all in the artist’s imagination as to what comes out onto the canvas.

While we have turned into a time of technology, the craft of oil painting will never diminish. There are hundreds of thousands of oil paintings that are valued as priceless around the world. You may be able to watch the movie “Shane” time and time again, but when you purchase a painting by Jack Wilson, you will be rewarded with a priceless piece of work that is invaluable. You may have heard the say, a pictures worth a thousand words, well it’s true. A picture is the one thing that can mean the same thing to some and a lot of things to many. The beauty of oil paintings cannot be replaced.
